THE PRISON HUMANITY PROJECT

PRIVACY POLICY

Effective Date: August 24, 2026

The Prison Humanity Project (“TPHP,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) provides reentry information, resource navigation, planning tools, downloadable materials, accessibility features, and the AI-powered TPHP Helper.

This Privacy Policy explains what information may be collected when you use TPHP, why it may be used, and how our technology may process it.

We believe people seeking reentry help should understand what happens to the information they provide.

THE PLAIN-LANGUAGE VERSION

You do not need to give TPHP your entire life story to get help.

Give us only the information reasonably necessary for the question you are asking.

Please do NOT submit things such as:

  • Complete Social Security numbers
  • Passwords
  • Bank account information
  • Credit or debit card numbers
  • PIN numbers
  • Account login credentials
  • Security-question answers
  • Other highly sensitive information that is not necessary for your request

The TPHP Helper may need information such as your state, county, release situation, housing needs, transportation needs, employment needs, identification status, supervision situation, or other reentry-related circumstances in order to give useful guidance.

The information you provide may be processed by technology providers that help operate TPHP, including artificial intelligence, hosting, speech-recognition, and voice-generation services.

TPHP does not sell your personal information to advertisers.

FULL PRIVACY POLICY

1. INFORMATION YOU CHOOSE TO PROVIDE

When using TPHP, you may voluntarily provide information including:

  • State or county
  • General location
  • Release status
  • Expected or recent release information
  • Housing situation
  • Employment situation
  • Transportation needs
  • Identification or document needs
  • Education or job-training needs
  • Healthcare or treatment-resource needs
  • Benefits questions
  • Supervision-related circumstances
  • Family or support-system information
  • Questions about reentry
  • Resource requests
  • Information entered into the TPHP Helper
  • Information used to generate a personalized plan or packet
  • Resource corrections or submissions
  • Messages sent through contact or feedback tools

You control what information you choose to provide.

The usefulness of personalized guidance may depend on the accuracy and completeness of the information you give us.

2. TPHP HELPER AND AI PROCESSING

The TPHP Helper uses artificial intelligence to understand requests and provide reentry navigation.

Information entered into the Helper may be processed in order to:

  • Understand what you are asking
  • Identify your reentry needs
  • Find potentially relevant resources
  • Organize next steps
  • Generate explanations
  • Create checklists
  • Prepare “What to Say” scripts
  • Create personalized reentry plans or packets
  • Provide accessibility and read-aloud functions
  • Continue a conversation with you

The TPHP Helper is not a private attorney, doctor, therapist, probation officer, parole officer, or government representative.

Because AI systems require information to process a request, do not enter highly sensitive information that is unnecessary for receiving help.

3. VOICE INPUT, AUDIO, AND TRANSCRIPTS

TPHP may allow users to speak to the TPHP Helper instead of typing.

If you choose voice mode and grant microphone permission, audio from your microphone may be captured and processed so your speech can be converted into text and understood by the Helper.

Voice functionality may involve:

  • Microphone access
  • Audio capture
  • Speech-to-text transcription
  • Processing of the resulting transcript
  • Text-to-speech generation
  • Playback of an AI-generated spoken response

TPHP may use third-party technology providers to perform these functions.

Voice mode is optional. Users may use typed interaction when available instead.

Do not speak highly sensitive information into the Helper unless it is genuinely necessary for your request.

4. SYNTHETIC AND CLONED VOICE TECHNOLOGY

TPHP Helper may respond using an authorized synthetic or cloned human voice.

The generated voice may sound like a real identifiable person.

Hearing that voice does not mean you are speaking live with that person.

Voice-generation technology may process the text of the Helper’s response in order to create spoken audio.

The purpose of this feature is to make TPHP easier to use for people who prefer spoken communication, have low literacy, have difficulty reading, have visual impairments, or are more comfortable receiving information by voice.

5. HOW WE USE INFORMATION

Information provided through TPHP may be used to:

  • Respond to your questions
  • Operate the TPHP Helper
  • Identify potentially relevant reentry resources
  • Create personalized plans, packets, checklists, and scripts
  • Provide voice and accessibility features
  • Process resource submissions or corrections
  • Respond to feedback or support requests
  • Maintain and improve website functionality
  • Detect technical problems, abuse, fraud, or security threats
  • Understand generally how TPHP tools and resources are being used
  • Protect TPHP, its users, and its technology

TPHP should use personal information only for purposes reasonably connected to providing, maintaining, protecting, or improving the Services.

We do not want users providing more personal information than is reasonably necessary to receive help.

6. THIRD-PARTY TECHNOLOGY PROVIDERS

TPHP relies on outside technology providers to operate certain features.

Depending on the feature you use, information may be processed by providers that perform functions such as:

  • Website hosting
  • Cloud infrastructure
  • Artificial-intelligence processing
  • Speech-to-text transcription
  • Voice generation
  • Document or packet generation
  • Analytics
  • Security
  • Error monitoring
  • Communications
  • Mapping or location-related functions

These providers may receive or process information only as necessary for the services they provide to TPHP, subject to their own applicable privacy practices and contractual obligations.

TPHP does not control the independent privacy practices of every third-party provider.

Users should avoid submitting unnecessary sensitive information because some information must pass through outside technology systems in order for features such as AI and voice interaction to function.

7. PERSONALIZED PLANS AND PACKETS

Information you provide to the TPHP Helper may be used to generate personalized reentry plans, resource lists, checklists, scripts, or downloadable packets.

These materials may contain information based on what you told the Helper.

Users should review personalized materials before saving, downloading, printing, sharing, or providing them to another person.

If a generated packet contains information you do not want others to see, do not share that packet.

Once a user downloads, prints, screenshots, emails, texts, uploads, or otherwise shares a TPHP-generated document outside the TPHP Services, TPHP cannot control what happens to that copy.

8. INFORMATION ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE

Users sometimes seek help for another person, including a spouse, fiancé, family member, friend, or incarcerated individual.

If you provide information about someone else, provide only what is reasonably necessary to receive the requested assistance.

Do not submit another person’s:

  • Social Security number
  • Financial-account information
  • Passwords
  • Login credentials
  • Medical records
  • Complete government-identification numbers
  • Other highly sensitive information

unless there is a legitimate reason, you have appropriate authority to provide it, and TPHP has specifically provided a secure method for doing so.

TPHP should not be used to collect, expose, track, harass, impersonate, or unlawfully distribute another person’s private information.

9. AUTOMATICALLY COLLECTED TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Like most websites and digital services, TPHP and its technology providers may automatically receive limited technical information when the Services are used.

This may include information such as:

  • Browser type
  • Device type
  • Operating system
  • General technical device information
  • IP address
  • Approximate geographic information derived from an IP address
  • Pages or features accessed
  • Date and time of access
  • Referring page or source
  • Basic usage and performance information
  • Error or diagnostic information

This information may be used to operate the website, maintain security, diagnose problems, improve performance, understand general usage, and protect against abuse.

TPHP does not need your precise physical location for most reentry assistance.

When location information is useful for finding resources, users should generally provide a city, county, ZIP code, or other location information appropriate to the request rather than an exact home location unless an exact location is genuinely necessary.

10. COOKIES, LOCAL STORAGE, AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGY

TPHP and its technology providers may use cookies, browser storage, local storage, session storage, or similar technology when reasonably necessary to operate the Services.

These technologies may help with things such as:

  • Remembering user preferences
  • Maintaining a session
  • Preserving progress in a tool
  • Saving selected resources or planning information
  • Supporting accessibility preferences
  • Understanding basic website usage
  • Improving performance
  • Preventing abuse or security problems

Some browser settings allow users to block or delete cookies and stored website data.

Disabling certain storage technologies may cause some TPHP features to stop working properly or prevent saved information from remaining available between visits.

11. WE DO NOT SELL PERSONAL INFORMATION

TPHP does not sell users’ personal information to advertisers, data brokers, or other companies for money.

We do not want someone’s reentry circumstances, incarceration history, housing needs, employment needs, supervision information, or personal struggles turned into a product for someone else to buy.

Information may still be shared with technology providers when reasonably necessary to operate TPHP, as described in this Privacy Policy.

If TPHP’s practices materially change in the future, this Privacy Policy should be updated before those new practices begin.

12. HOW LONG INFORMATION MAY BE KEPT

Different types of information may be kept for different periods depending on why the information exists and how the applicable feature works.

Information may be retained when reasonably necessary to:

  • Provide or complete a requested service
  • Maintain a saved plan or feature
  • Respond to support requests
  • Maintain security
  • Investigate abuse or technical problems
  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Maintain necessary business or operational records

TPHP should not intentionally keep personally identifiable information longer than reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.

Some information may also remain temporarily in backups, logs, caches, or third-party systems according to technical or provider retention practices.

Downloaded, printed, emailed, screenshotted, or otherwise exported materials may remain wherever the user chose to save or share them.

13. SECURITY

TPHP takes reasonable steps to protect the Services and information handled through them.

Security measures may include:

  • Secure website connections
  • Restricted access to administrative systems
  • Protected API credentials
  • Server-side handling of private credentials where appropriate
  • Access controls
  • Software updates
  • Monitoring for technical problems or abuse
  • Security protections provided by hosting and technology providers

No website, app, database, transmission method, or cloud service can guarantee absolute security.

Users can help protect themselves by avoiding unnecessary sensitive information and by keeping control of devices, accounts, downloaded packets, and documents containing personal information.

TPHP will never need a user’s password to another website, bank account, email account, government account, or social-media account in order to provide ordinary reentry navigation.

14. YOUR CHOICES

Users may choose:

  • Whether to use the TPHP Helper
  • Whether to use voice mode or type instead
  • How much information to provide
  • Whether to save or download a generated plan
  • Whether to share a packet with another person
  • Whether to submit a resource or correction
  • Whether to continue using the Services

Users should avoid providing information they do not want processed as part of their request.

Where TPHP provides a way to correct, delete, or manage saved information, users may use those available controls.

Users may also contact TPHP through its published contact options with privacy-related questions or reasonable requests concerning information associated with them.

15. CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

TPHP is primarily designed for adults, people preparing for or returning from incarceration, families, advocates, and reentry professionals.

Children under 13 should not directly submit personal information through the TPHP Helper.

An adult may sometimes provide limited information concerning a child when that information is reasonably necessary for a family-reentry question, such as:

  • Family reunification
  • Housing needs
  • School enrollment
  • Transportation
  • Benefits
  • Childcare
  • Identification documents
  • Family-support resources

Only information reasonably necessary for the request should be provided.

TPHP does not intentionally seek unnecessary personal information from children.

If TPHP becomes aware that personal information from a child under 13 was submitted inappropriately, we may take reasonable steps to remove it.

16. SENSITIVE REENTRY INFORMATION

Reentry conversations can involve deeply personal circumstances.

Users may choose to discuss information related to:

  • Past incarceration
  • Criminal-justice involvement
  • Probation or parole
  • Housing instability
  • Employment barriers
  • Substance-use recovery
  • Healthcare needs
  • Mental-health resources
  • Family circumstances
  • Financial hardship
  • Identification problems
  • Transportation barriers
  • Other reentry-related challenges

TPHP processes this information for the purpose of helping users navigate resources and next steps.

TPHP does not consider a person’s incarceration history or reentry circumstances something that should be exploited for advertising or sold as a commercial profile.

Users should still share only the information reasonably necessary to receive assistance.

17. LEGAL, SECURITY, AND SAFETY DISCLOSURES

TPHP may disclose information when reasonably necessary to:

  • Comply with applicable law
  • Respond to a valid legal process
  • Protect the security or integrity of TPHP
  • Investigate fraud, abuse, attacks, or unauthorized access
  • Protect the rights or safety of TPHP, its users, or others
  • Respond to circumstances where disclosure is otherwise legally required

TPHP does not operate as a law-enforcement, corrections, probation, parole, or government-surveillance service.

Using the TPHP Helper does not create a confidential professional relationship or legal privilege.

Users should not assume information entered into an online AI system has the same legal confidentiality protections as communications with an attorney, doctor, therapist, or other privileged professional.

18. EXTERNAL WEBSITES AND RESOURCE PROVIDERS

TPHP may provide information about or direct users to outside organizations, government agencies, employers, housing providers, treatment programs, legal organizations, educational programs, transportation providers, and other resources.

When you leave TPHP and interact directly with another organization, that organization’s own privacy practices apply.

TPHP does not control how independent organizations collect or use information that you provide directly to them.

Before submitting highly sensitive information to an outside provider, users should make sure they understand who they are giving the information to and why it is being requested.

19. PRIVACY RIGHTS AND REQUESTS

Depending on where you live and the laws that apply, you may have certain rights concerning personal information associated with you.

Those rights may include the ability to request:

  • Access to certain personal information
  • Correction of inaccurate information
  • Deletion of certain information
  • Information about how personal information is used
  • Information about categories of third parties that process information
  • Other privacy rights provided by applicable law

Not every right applies in every situation, and some information may need to be retained when required for legal, security, operational, or other legitimate reasons.

TPHP will make reasonable efforts to respond to legitimate privacy requests that can be appropriately verified.

Privacy-related questions or requests may be submitted through TPHP’s published contact options.

20. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

TPHP may update this Privacy Policy as our technology, Services, legal requirements, or privacy practices change.

When material changes are made, the effective date at the top of this Privacy Policy should be updated.

Users are encouraged to review this Privacy Policy periodically.

21. CONTACTING TPHP ABOUT PRIVACY

Questions, concerns, or reasonable privacy-related requests may be submitted through the contact options provided by The Prison Humanity Project.

When possible, provide enough information for TPHP to understand and appropriately respond to the request without including unnecessary sensitive information.

22. OUR PRIVACY PRINCIPLE

The Prison Humanity Project exists to help people navigate reentry, not to turn their personal circumstances into a product.

We will work to collect only what is reasonably necessary, use information for legitimate TPHP purposes, protect it appropriately, and explain our practices in plain language.

Users should still protect their own sensitive information and provide only what is reasonably necessary to receive help.
